Administration Method: Powdered herb for infusions, pressed plant juice for internal use.
Herb Action: Anti-inflammatory, demulcent, emollient, expectorant
Health Warning: Like comfrey and borage, coltsfoot contains small amounts of liver toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (P A.s).  The effects of the P A.s are cumulative. Coltsfoot consumption should be avoided during pregnancy, or limited to short-term use due to its pyrrolizidine alkaloids content.  Little is known about the effects of the P.A.s on the fetus.  Any person with debilitating liver conditions should avoid using coltsfoot.
