Ephedra Remedy

Other Names: Ephedra, Ma huang, Ephedra Sinica
Traditional Usages: Regulates Blood Pressure, Obesity, Fevers, Chills, Colds, Flu, Refief from Fatigue, Diseases of the respiratory tract

Parts Used: Stem, Branches, Seed, Seed Oil, Fruit Pulp.
Administration Method: Ground herb and natural preparations for internal use.
Herb Action: Anti-tussive, Bacteriostatice
Health Warning: Avoid if pregnant or breastfeeding.  Avoid Ephedra if you are experiencing  anxiety and restlessness, high blood pressure, glaucoma, impaired circulation of the cerebrum, adenoma of prostate with residual urine accumulation, pheochromo-cytoma, thyrotoxicosis. 
Possible side effects include: Insomnia, motor restlessness, irritability, headaches, nausea, vomiting, disturbances of urination, tachycardia. Ephedra preparations should only be used on a short-term duration because of tachyphylaxis and danger of addiction.  

NB: Ephedra can only be sold in premises which are registered pharmacies and by or under the supervision of a pharmacist


Ephedra – Herbal remedy for Hay Fever: This herb contains ephedrine which clears the acute sinus stuffiness.
Health Warning: While this Ephedra can be an effective herbal treatment for hay fever it should not be taken for more than a week and then only under strict supervision of your medical doctor, due to the effects ephedrine has on the central nervous system. Dosage should not exceed 8 milligrams per serving every 6-hours and must not to exceed 24 milligrams per day.
