Slippery Elm - Herbal remedy for Hernia: The inner bark of slippery elm contains mucilage and is used to treat the symptoms of hiatal hernia. Slippery elm reduces inflammation and irritation of the esophagus and stomach. It also appears to increase production of mucus that coats the digestive tract.
Health Warning: Slippery elm is best taken separately from other medications and herbs as it may block their absorption.

Slippery Elm - Herbal remedy for Ulcers, Peptic:  Slippery Elm can give relief to pain caused by ulcers. A useful way to take it is in the form of a gruel or pudding. The following method may help prevent slippery elm from clumping up in water which it tends to do. Put one and a half teaspoons of slippery elm powder in a small jar with half a cup cold water and shake it up vigorously. Pour this out into a bowl and pour 1-2 cups boiling water over it. Stir continuously for two minutes. You can enjoy this with honey, raisins, lemon rind and cinnamon.
