Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) is used to treat or prevent many conditions caused by a lack of vitamin D, especially conditions of the skin or bones. Vitamin D is one of the more complex vitamins that are needed by the human body in order to grow and develop. Vitamin D is actually available in two forms, Vitamin D3 cholecalciferol and Vitamin D2 Ergocalciferol.
Vitamin D3 is formed when the body synthesizes sunlight on its surface. It mainly occurs through the exposure of the skin to UVA and UVB rays. Vitamin D3 can also be obtained by consuming animal products.
Vitamin D2 is manufactured by plants or fungus. It is also available through fortified juices, milk and some cereals.
UVA and UVB: UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin's thickest layer. Unprotected exposure can lead to premature skin aging and wrinkling and suppression of the immune system. UVB rays will usually burn the surface layers of your skin. It plays a key role in the development of skin cancer.
