Acorus Calamus - Herbal remedy for Convulsion: The dried root of Acorus Calamus is also known as calamus root, sweet sledge, sweet flag and sweet myrtle. Acorus Calamus is a plant that has been held in high esteem by North American Indians for hundreds of years. Its root is used in herbal medicine. It has an aromatic fragrance and a tangy, pungent and bitter taste. In Ayurveda Calamus is considered an aromatic, bitter tonic which stimulates digestion.  Sweet flag or calamus has been used since ancient times. However modern misuse of the root oil has given rise to concerns over its use.  It was used for amnesia, heart palpitations, tinnitus, chronic bronchitis, and bronchial asthma. Mix one teaspoon of calamus oil with one tablespoon of coconut oil. Rub on chest twice daily.

Health Warning: Calamus Oil is not recommended for Internal Use (not to be taken) but Calamus oil may be used externally for convulsions and bronchitis. Never use the essential oil of calamus in extract form.
